COVER STORY by maximillien de lafayette THE RACE TO THE WHITE HOUSE Though the presidential election Day 2008 is more than two years away, candidates, contenders and politic shakers-makers began to work on the race to The White House. Some "wealthy" front runners have already made their plans, selected their campaign staff and hired their publicists and teams. Who is running and who is not? It is not hard to tell, although, some candidates are making double talk. Insiders and political grapevine observers came up with the following list. Meaning a list of candidates considered to be either the most eligible, the most promising, or the most capable of making an effective run.
THE LIST
His assets: 1-Joe Biden is considered to be one of the United States Senate's leading foreign-policy heavyweights. 2-Outstanding oratory skills. 3-His stand against invading Iraq. What's against him: His repetitious allegoric statements. Some insiders say nothing is new in Biden's speeches. The same old thing.
|
His assets: 1-Being the former Nato Supreme Allied Commander in Europe. 2-Extensive experience of European affairs. 3-An authority on US military foreign policy. True! the US military, contrary to common belief, has it is own agenda and military foreign policy and strategy in Europe and the Near East. 4-His pragmatic ability to attract Republican and Democrats votes.5- His undisputed honesty. What's against him: 1-He failed to make any significant impact on the 2004 race. 3-He was unable to raise enough fund to finance his previous presidential race campaign. 4-The American people are not so eager or enchanted to have a military man as head of the state. General Dwight Eisenhower who was elected president in the 1950s was the only exception in modern times. The same thing could be said about Andrew Jackson, but that kind of triumph is "passé" now. 5-Despite his high intellect (a master's degree in politics, philosophy and economics), he lacks oratory skills. 5-Weak campaign funding. 6-Limited staff.
Her assets: 1-The quasi official choice of the Democrats. 2-Unmatched name recognition. 3-National and international celebrity status. 4-Holds a record in fundraising. Nobody can bring so much money to the table like Senator Hillary Clinton. She has raised more than $40m for her Senate re-election campaign, and money keeps on pouring! What's against her: 1-The Americans are not ready yet to elect a woman as a president.
His assets: 1-He now runs an anti-poverty headquarter on a very big scale, thus attracting a "new" large portion of the needy and underprivileged, both in the South and the North. 2-He is an outstanding speaker and quite convincing. 3-He is fresh blood. 4-Remarkable tactician and political strategist. 5-He has a national name recognition. 6- Having been in the process before and thus acquiring "on the job" experience. 6-Ability to raise funds. 7-Loved by the "new age generation". What's against him: 1-Being "unnecessarily" very diplomatic and "politically slick". 2-Patronising. CONTINUES ON P19 |
